“I only want good talents.”
Have you heard any bosses say this before?
If I’m buying durian and I say, “i only want good durians” from a pile of them, sure I can get, but I’ll have to pay a premium price.
Same for talents. If you’re the leader of an organisation and you only want good talents, you’ll have to be prepared to pay a premium price too.
The price isn’t just monetary, it’s also your time and energy invested in them to build them up and to appreciate them.
EVEN IF you have the best talents, top performers can also have days when their morale is low.
Even superman and batman has their down time.
What’s important is how you coach and guide them as a leader through it.
So, if you catch yourself saying this again, stop and ask yourself instead:
What are you doing to attract and retain good talents?
